Understanding the WIFI: format
A Wi-Fi QR code starts with WIFI: and typically reads T:WPA;S:network;P:password;H:true;; for hidden networks. Special characters in the password are backslash-escaped, because semicolons, commas and colons would otherwise act as separators. The scanner reassembles escaped characters and shows exactly the password needed to connect.
Cafés, hotels and guest networks print these codes on table stands. If the label is missing, a photo of the code is enough — image scanning handles the rest without re-pairing your phone.
Why your images never leave the device
The decoder is JavaScript running in your browser. Camera frames are drawn into a canvas and read there; uploaded images are read through FileReader. There is no upload endpoint for image data. That is an architectural decision, not a slogan: the application has no route that accepts image content.
To improve the tool we store anonymous counters only — detected format, payload category (Wi-Fi, product code and so on), interface language, and whether decoding succeeded. No decoded content, no filenames, no IP-based profiling. Scan history lives in your browser’s localStorage and is deleted with one click.
Creating your own Wi-Fi code
If you want to share the network rather than read it, the QR generator in our network creates a printable Wi-Fi code in PNG or SVG, including notes on encryption and validity for guest access.
Вопросы
Частые вопросы
What is stored inside a Wi-Fi QR code?
Network name (SSID), encryption type (usually WPA/WPA2) and the password, optionally a hidden-network flag.
Are the credentials stored?
No. Parsing happens in your browser and never reaches a server. History lives only in your device's localStorage.
Can I copy the password directly?
Yes, every field has its own copy action. Escaped characters are shown decoded, not as the raw masked string.
Does it work from a photo of a table stand?
Yes, as long as the code is sharp and complete. For glossy stands, pick an angle without reflections.
Why does my iPhone not join automatically?
iOS does not always offer a connection from the camera app. Use the decoded password to pick the network manually.
