Privacy policy

This policy describes what actually happens during a scan. It is deliberately concrete: every statement corresponds to a technical property of the application.

Controller

The publisher named in the imprint is responsible for this service. Privacy contact: the email address in the imprint. Requests are answered within two business days.

Image and camera processing

Camera frames and uploaded files are processed in your browser memory only. Decoding runs in JavaScript. There is no endpoint that accepts image data; the application has no route to upload images or store decoded payloads.

Camera access is requested only after your click and can be revoked in the browser at any time. Scan history lives in localStorage (key scanwerk.history.v1), at most ten entries, and is removed entirely via “Clear list”.

Anonymous usage statistics

After a successful or failed scan we store a record with language, format (for example QR_CODE), category (url or wifi), source (camera or image), success flag and timestamp. That record contains no decoded payload, no file name, no IP address and no device identifier.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — the legitimate interest of measuring decoding quality per format. Storage is limited to the necessary minimum and never used for profiling.

Contact form

If you use the contact form we store name, email, subject and message in order to reply. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR. Data is deleted once the enquiry is closed and no statutory retention applies.

Cookies and consent

The application itself sets no cookies. We use localStorage only to remember a consent decision. Optional services load only with your consent and stay disabled otherwise.

Anonymous scan statistics are never shared with third parties. If third-party services are enabled in future, a third-country transfer may occur; the provider's standard contractual clauses would then apply.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection. An informal message to the address in the imprint is enough. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Because we collect no personal data for scanning, individual scans generally cannot be attributed to a person — which is the intended effect of the architecture.
